Colin Crichton - Multidisciplinary Modern Artist

Colin Crichton is a multidisciplinary artist raised in Ottignies, Belgium. Born to a German mother and a Scottish father, he grew up in an intellectually and artistically rich environment that strongly shaped his creative path. His mother, an art history and music teacher, introduced him early to visual culture and music, and he began developing his artistic practice from a young age.

He pursued formal art studies during Sixth Form at IATA in Namur, where he studied under the guidance of Pierre Courtois and Marcel Warrant. These formative years laid the foundation for a practice rooted in experimentation, material exploration, and conceptual depth.

Over the years, Colin has developed a distinctive artistic language with a strong emphasis on recycling and transformation. Sustainability is central to his practice, not only as a material choice but as a conceptual framework addressing reuse, memory, and cultural symbols.

He was an active participant in the Summer Academy Salzburg for three consecutive editions: in 2018 with Ei Arakawa, in 2019 with Paulina Ołowska, and in 2025 with Ofri Cnaani. These experiences further expanded his interdisciplinary approach and reinforced his engagement with contemporary artistic discourse.

Colin is currently developing an ongoing series titled “Recycled Paper Bags”, influenced by Neo-Expressionist and Neo-Pop aesthetics. In this body of work, he deconstructs everyday paper bags crumpling, tearing, destroying, and rebuilding them through drawing, painting, and the incorporation of fabric and found objects. By transforming discarded materials, he assigns them new meaning, questioning value, identity, and the cycles of consumption and reinvention.
